TEAM

Significant wealth demands more than management — it requires leadership.

The Senatus Wealth team brings deep technical expertise, seasoned judgment, and cross-disciplinary coordination to the design and stewardship of complex financial outcomes.

Our reputation has been built through disciplined execution, clear counsel, and a sustained commitment to understanding the responsibilities, dynamics, and long-term objectives of the families we advise.

We publicly present select members of our team. Additional specialist expertise behind our work remains intentionally private by design — reflecting the discretion our clients expect and protecting the focus, alignment, and proprietary relationships that support complex outcomes. In matters of significant wealth, discretion is part of the advantage.

Founder, President

Brett P. Nicholson - Private Wealth Advisor

Brett P. Nicholson is the Founder and President of Senatus Wealth Management and Senatus Wealth Private Advisory. He advises high-net-worth families, private clients, and family enterprises on complex matters at the intersection of wealth, tax, legal structure, liquidity, and multi-generational succession.

His work focuses on the design and coordination of integrated wealth architecture — aligning capital, governance, risk, and succession so that sophisticated strategies are structured properly, sequenced intelligently, and executed with the full system in view. Brett is known for helping families and business owners navigate complexity with a level of strategic clarity, technical depth, and cross-disciplinary integration superior to a conventional wealth advisor.

For nearly two decades, he has advised entrepreneurial families across Canada and the United States on tax-efficient wealth creation, capital preservation, liquidity design, and multi-generational continuity. He works closely with accountants, lawyers, and other professional advisors to preserve coherence across the broader planning architecture, often uncovering substantial planning opportunities for clients and advisors in the process.

Brett is a Guest Lecturer at the Ivey Business School, a featured presenter at Baker Tilly Canada’s Knowledge Forum, a guest on BNN and has been featured by The Hockey News for his work in Sports and Entertainment. He is also a member of CALU and the author of Perspectives, Senatus Wealth’s library of public and membership based works for affluent families and their advisory teams.

Outside his professional work, Brett serves as Chair of For Peace of Mind, a mental health and neuroscience fundraising initiative supporting London Health Sciences Centre.

For more than two decades, Ray has advised many of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs and family-controlled businesses. He is known for a practical, solutions-oriented approach and for bringing clarity and discretion to matters where technical complexity and strategic judgment are equally important.

Having built a distinguished practice in Halifax before relocating to Ontario, Ray brings both deep legal expertise and seasoned commercial perspective to complex advisory files. His work is grounded in rigorous analysis, sound judgment, and a longstanding commitment to professional excellence.

Ray is a former President of the Canadian Bar Association, a member of the International Bar Association, and a former Chair of the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council. He is consistently recognized by The Best Lawyers in Canada and has been named Lawyer of the Year in Trusts and Estates. Professional Services Team

Senatus Wealth maintains longstanding relationships with a network of tax, legal, and estate planning specialists across North America. These professionals advise some of the most successful entrepreneurs, medical professionals, and professional athletes, and are experienced in navigating complex, multigenerational wealth matters.

Importantly, Senatus Wealth does not receive compensation from these specialists, nor do they receive compensation related to your investment or assurance solutions. This independence ensures advice remains objective, coordinated, and aligned solely with your interests.

As a Senatus Wealth client, you have access to this professional services network, which remains available to collaborate with you, your family, your business partners, and your existing advisory team—at your discretion. Our role is to ensure thoughtful coordination, clarity of responsibility, and continuity across disciplines.

Investment Management

Investment Management Team

The Investment Management Team at Senatus Wealth is responsible for designing and overseeing investment strategies that serve a broader purpose: durability, liquidity, and long-term control.

Our approach recognizes that, for high-net-worth families, investing does not exist in isolation. Portfolios must integrate seamlessly with tax planning, corporate structures, insurance architecture, and estate strategies. As such, our investment decisions are made within a disciplined governance framework that prioritizes after-tax outcomes, risk management, and alignment with each client’s broader objectives.

The team focuses on globally diversified, risk-aware portfolios designed to compound capital efficiently while preserving flexibility across market cycles. Emphasis is placed on downside protection, liquidity planning, and structural resilience - ensuring capital is available when needed and never forced into untimely decisions.

Working collaboratively with the firm’s advisory, tax, and estate planning professionals, our Investment Management Team serves as a core component of an integrated wealth architecture - supporting thoughtful growth today while safeguarding clarity and continuity across generations.

Risk Management

Underwriting & Risk Management

The Insurance Underwriting and Risk Management Team at Senatus Wealth is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing oversight of sophisticated wealth transfer strategies that support broader wealth, tax, and estate objectives.

Our team specializes in advanced underwriting, risk assessment, and policy structuring for high-net-worth families, founders, and business owners with complex personal and corporate exposures. This includes coordinating medical and financial underwriting, negotiating with insurance purveyors, and architecting solutions that align with corporate structures, shareholder agreements, estate plans, and long-term liquidity requirements.

Insurance is approached not as a standalone product, but as a strategic risk and liquidity tool—used to protect balance sheets, enhance tax efficiency, fund succession and estate obligations, and preserve optionality during periods of transition or uncertainty.

Working closely with our investment, tax, legal, and estate planning professionals, the Insurance Underwriting and Risk Management Team ensures that coverage remains appropriate, competitively structured, and fully integrated into each client’s overall wealth architecture as circumstances evolve.
