FOUNDER, PRESIDENT

Brett P. Nicholson

Brett founded Senatus to solve the problem he watched UHNW families pay for, year after year: capable specialists working in parallel, no one accountable for the whole. As Founder and President, he holds the seat where it all reports in — tax, law, estate, investment, insurance, succession — and signs the work that goes out under the family’s name.

His clients are typically anchored by a private operating enterprise, often into a second or third generation, and have outgrown the reach of any single advisor. They retain Brett because the relationship is long, the cadence is set personally, and a principal of the firm is reading every piece of counsel before it leaves the table. Most introductions come from an existing client — or from a lawyer or accountant who has watched what coordination changes about a family’s position over time.

Brett’s work has, across two decades, preserved tax positions that would otherwise have cost materially more, settled succession questions before they were asked, and held continuity through liquidity events, illness, and generational transitions. The quality that brings families to him — and keeps them — is the one least advertised in the industry: judgment under pressure, and the discipline to hold a considered course through it.

Beyond the firm, Brett is a Guest Lecturer at the Ivey Business School, a Guest Contributor to BNN Bloomberg, a member of CALU, and the principal author of Perspectives. He established the Nicholson Family Foundation in 2013 and has chaired For Peace of Mind at the London Health Sciences Foundation since 2018. His professional training spans the CFA, CFP, CLU, CSC, and U.S. securities curricula — the disciplines the work requires.
