Founder

Brett P. Nicholson - Founder, President

Brett Nicholson is the Founder and President of Senatus Wealth, where he serves as a trusted advisor to private business owners, professionals, and high-net-worth families with complex, multigenerational wealth responsibilities.

For almost two decades, Brett has specialized in the design and implementation of advanced strategies focused on wealth creation, preservation, and intergenerational transfer. His work spans private corporations, entrepreneurial families, and professional practices, with an emphasis on tax efficiency, structural integrity, and long-term control.

Brett studied Management and Organizational Studies (Accounting) at the University of Western Ontario. He has been featured by BNN and The Hockey News for his work in the Sports & Entertainment market, and is an active member of the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriters (CALU).

Prior to founding Senatus Wealth, Brett held roles with a major Canadian insurance company and one of Canada’s largest Schedule I banks. Through this experience, he identified structural limitations within traditional financial models—particularly compensation conflicts and fragmented advice—that often work against the long-term interests of private business owners and professionals. Senatus Wealth was established to address these limitations through an integrated, client-first advisory model.

Today, Brett and the Senatus team are recognized by leading accounting and legal firms across Canada for their expertise in tax-efficient wealth, assurance, and transition planning. Their work integrates financial, legal, and family considerations into cohesive strategies designed to enhance clarity, preserve control, and support enduring outcomes.

Outside of his professional work, Brett serves as Chair of For Peace of Mind, a mental health and neuroscience fundraising initiative supporting the London Health Sciences Centre.

Professional Services

Professional Services Team

Senatus Wealth maintains longstanding relationships with a network of tax, legal, and estate planning specialists across North America. These professionals advise some of the most successful entrepreneurs, medical professionals, and professional athletes, and are experienced in navigating complex, multigenerational wealth matters.

Importantly, Senatus Wealth does not receive compensation from these specialists, nor do they receive compensation related to your investment or assurance solutions. This independence ensures advice remains objective, coordinated, and aligned solely with your interests.

As a Senatus Wealth client, you have access to this professional services network, which remains available to collaborate with you, your family, your business partners, and your existing advisory team—at your discretion. Our role is to ensure thoughtful coordination, clarity of responsibility, and continuity across disciplines.

Investment Management Team

Investment Management Team

The Investment Management Team at Senatus Wealth is responsible for designing and overseeing investment strategies that serve a broader purpose: durability, liquidity, and long-term control.

Our approach recognizes that, for high-net-worth families, investing does not exist in isolation. Portfolios must integrate seamlessly with tax planning, corporate structures, insurance architecture, and estate strategies. As such, our investment decisions are made within a disciplined governance framework that prioritizes after-tax outcomes, risk management, and alignment with each client’s broader objectives.

The team focuses on globally diversified, risk-aware portfolios designed to compound capital efficiently while preserving flexibility across market cycles. Emphasis is placed on downside protection, liquidity planning, and structural resilience - ensuring capital is available when needed and never forced into untimely decisions.

Working collaboratively with the firm’s advisory, tax, and estate planning professionals, our Investment Management Team serves as a core component of an integrated wealth architecture - supporting thoughtful growth today while safeguarding clarity and continuity across generations.

Risk Management Team

Insurance Underwriting & Risk Management

The Insurance Underwriting and Risk Management Team at Senatus Wealth is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing oversight of sophisticated wealth transfer strategies that support broader wealth, tax, and estate objectives.

Our team specializes in advanced underwriting, risk assessment, and policy structuring for high-net-worth families, founders, and business owners with complex personal and corporate exposures. This includes coordinating medical and financial underwriting, negotiating with insurance purveyors, and architecting solutions that align with corporate structures, shareholder agreements, estate plans, and long-term liquidity requirements.

Insurance is approached not as a standalone product, but as a strategic risk and liquidity tool—used to protect balance sheets, enhance tax efficiency, fund succession and estate obligations, and preserve optionality during periods of transition or uncertainty.

Working closely with our investment, tax, legal, and estate planning professionals, the Insurance Underwriting and Risk Management Team ensures that coverage remains appropriate, competitively structured, and fully integrated into each client’s overall wealth architecture as circumstances evolve.
